World Book and Copyright Day
Our school recently celebrated two important literary dates: International Children’s Book Day - held on Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday - and World Book and Copyright Day, established by UNESCO to promote reading and respect for authors’ rights.
April 23 was symbolic: on this day in 1616, Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega passed away. Their legacy reminds us of the lasting power of books to inspire imagination, broaden horizons, and strengthen critical thinking.
To mark these occasions, students of the Lithuanian Section organised a month‑long reading initiative. During mini‑conference days, they presented the books they had read, shared impressions, and discussed memorable characters and storylines. These activities encouraged reading and helped students develop clear expression, argumentation, and attentive listening.
The initiative showed that books remain meaningful today - they unite, inspire, and spark dialogue. World Book and Copyright Day is therefore more than a date on the calendar; it is an invitation to rediscover the joy of reading and share it with others.
