Olympiad of the Lithuanian Mother Tongue
As every year, the two strongest students in the Lithuanian Language Section in the field of native language and literature travelled to Lithuania to participate in the Lithuanian Language Olympiad.
This year the event took place in the capital, Vilnius, at Vytautas Didysis Gymnasium, bringing together 180 students from Lithuania and Lithuanian communities abroad.
“The participants of the Olympiad are young people from Lithuania and beyond for whom the Lithuanian word is not merely a subject of study, but a foundation of identity. They gathered not only to test their knowledge: the students arrived with curiosity, the joy of creativity, and a desire to explore the deeper layers of language,” said one of the organisers, Jurgita Stulginskienė.
During the Olympiad, participants completed a variety of tasks: they wrote an essay, took tests in grammar and literature, and prepared an oral presentation. In this way, a wide range of linguistic abilities was assessed.
While the students were working on their assignments, the accompanying teachers attended a seminar entitled “Cultural Identity in a Global World.” After an intense day, both students and teachers were able to enjoy a performance by the theatre studio of Vilnius Vytautas Didysis Gymnasium, titled “(Un)learned Lessons”.
The following day concluded with the awards ceremony for the Olympiad laureates. When the evaluation committee announced the winners, both students from our school were among those honoured: Kamilė Konovalova (S5 LTA) was awarded first place, and Aušra Andrulytė (S7 LTA) received third place.
Congratulations to Kamilė and Aušra and thank you to Mrs Audrone Anulien, Teacher at EEB2, for her support!
