Lithuanian Minister of Education visit

During her working visit to Brussels, where she took part in the EU Education Council meeting alongside ministers from other Member States to discuss current educational priorities, the Lithuanian Minister of Education, Science and Sport, Ms Raminta Popovienė, also visited Brussels II European School.

The Minister was accompanied by the Education Attaché in Brussels, Ms Rasa Pečiukonienė.

The Minister met with teachers of the Lithuanian Section as well as with pupils from both the Primary and Secondary cycles. The S3 LTA class, which brings together an impressive group of 30 students, welcomed the guest with an artistic and patriotic performance. The programme featured meaningful excerpts from classical Lithuanian literature, highlighting fundamental values and showcasing the beauty of the Lithuanian language—one of the oldest Indo-European languages.

Discussions focused on the education of Lithuanian pupils abroad, including the provision of teaching materials, the organisation of the learning process at the school, and the overall situation of the Lithuanian Section. The Minister expressed her appreciation for the pupils’ high academic achievements, their active participation in various competitions, their strong connection to Lithuanian culture, and their meaningful engagement in the multicultural life of the school, which fosters tolerance, cultural diversity, and the well-being of every member of the community.

Afterwards, the Minister met with the school’s administration. The Director, Mrs Kamila Malik, welcomed both the guest and the teachers of the Lithuanian Section for a discussion on the mission of the European Schools and the role and visibility of the Lithuanian Section within the wider school community. The school’s Deputy Directors provided a detailed overview of the activities of the Lithuanian Section and the initiatives undertaken by its teachers.

At the end of her visit, the Minister warmly emphasised the strong sense of community among Lithuanians abroad, stating that she would take with her “a feeling of warmth and pride – our community here is strong, united, and full of ambition. Thank you to everyone who contributes every day to nurturing the Lithuanian spirit within the European School!”
