From the canvas to the stage: Art in Motion
A third project has been selected for the Teachers Forum in Cyprus in the Posters Presentation category. This is the artistic project ‘FROM THE CANVAS TO THE STAGE: ART IN MOTION’ by Silvana Cigognini.
This project, consisting of four workshops, introduces children to the joy of different forms of Art through innovative and engaging activities. It fosters creativity, emotional well-being, and collaborative learning while offering professional development for teachers. Each session combines theoretical insights with hands-on challenges tailored to the group’s needs and interests, encouraging inclusive participation and parental involvement to create a holistic connection between school and home.
In the first workshop, children explore the polysemy of art, building confidence through interactive challenges like Food Art and Hyper-Realistic drawings. Activities are inspired by the Swedish method “Grej of the Day” and encourage continued exploration at home with family quizzes. The second workshop introduces major art movements and techniques, using interactive tools and activities such as the surrealist “cadavre exquis” to connect art to historical and cultural contexts. Key concepts like chiaroscuro, aerial perspective and sfumato are explored in a fun, engaging way. The third workshop focuses on the connections between art forms, including theatre, Opera, dance, cinema, and music. Ancient masks and costumes are used to understand the evolution of theatre. Practical exercises, such as diaphragm breathing and body language expression, encourage children to explore emotions and interpret creatively the elements of nature. The fourth workshop offers focused lessons on specific techniques: Manga-style drawing, landscape, and portrait art, with additional family challenges to deepen engagement. Through these workshops, children discover diverse forms of artistic expression, improve social interaction, and develop emotional awareness, while teachers gain insights to create tailored strategies for future lessons.
This selection also recognises the work of all the P5 pupils in these workshops since September.
